Guest app pricing
How much does a hotel guest app cost?
Most hotel guest app platforms charge a monthly subscription, usually scaled by room count, and many only share prices after a demo. Some charge a share of what guests buy instead, so there is nothing to pay until guests spend. Building your own native app is a one-off development project plus ongoing upkeep.
Visby for Hotels is free to start (Visby earns a small share of what guests buy), or a flat monthly plan with no commission.
The pricing models you will see
| Model | How it works | Good when | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly subscription by room count | A fee per room per month, or tiers by property size. | You want a predictable bill and plan to use the app a lot. | Setup fees, minimum terms, and modules (check-in, upsells, messaging) sold separately. |
| Commission on sales | No monthly fee. The vendor takes a share of what guests buy through the app. | You want to try it on real guests first, or your occupancy is seasonal. | Which sales count, and whether card processing is on top. |
| Both, your choice | Start on commission, move to a flat monthly fee when guest spend grows. | You are not sure yet how much guests will buy. | How easy it is to switch, and whether features differ between plans. |
| Build your own app | Pay an agency or developers to build a native app, then maintain it. | You are a large group with a loyalty program and a tech team. | App Store upkeep, OS updates, and getting guests to download it for a short stay. |
Prices vendors publish

What changes the price
- Number of rooms and properties. Most subscriptions scale with both.
- Modules. Online check-in, upsells, messaging, AI and digital keys are often priced separately.
- Integrations. PMS, door locks and payment connections can carry setup or monthly fees.
- Messaging. SMS and WhatsApp messages cost money per message somewhere along the line.
- Payments. Card processing applies to anything guests pay for in the app.
- Contract length. Annual terms are common; ask about monthly.

- Which features are in the base price and which are add-ons?

What Visby for Hotels costs
Two plans. On the Performance plan there is no upfront or monthly fee: Visby earns a small share of what guests buy through checkout, so you pay only when you sell. On the Platform plan you pay one flat monthly fee sized to your room count, with no commission on sales. Standard card processing applies to card payments on both.
The Performance plan has no setup fee, guests download nothing, and you can go live without a PMS. Tell us about your hotel and we will send the numbers for both plans, book a 30-minute demo, or email hello@visbytravel.com.

How much does a hotel guest app cost?
It depends on the pricing model. Most guest app platforms charge a monthly subscription, often scaled by room count, and many only share prices after a demo. Some charge a share of what guests buy instead of a monthly fee. Building your own native app is a one-off development project plus ongoing upkeep.
Is a monthly fee or a commission cheaper?
A commission costs nothing until guests buy something, so it suits hotels that want to see results first or have uneven occupancy. A flat monthly fee is cheaper once guests spend a lot through the app. Some vendors, Visby included, offer both so you can switch as you grow.
What does Visby cost?

The Platform plan is a flat monthly fee sized to your room count, with no commission on sales. Standard card processing applies on both. Tell us about your hotel and we send the numbers for both.
What hidden costs should I ask about?
Setup or onboarding fees, per-integration fees for your PMS or door locks, card processing on in-app payments, charges for extra languages or properties, SMS and WhatsApp message costs, and the minimum contract length.
Is it worth building our own hotel app?
For most independent hotels, no. A custom native app means a development budget, App Store upkeep, and the hardest part: getting guests to download it for a short stay. A branded web guest app gets the same features in front of guests on day one.
